Arranging a Funeral at St. Mary’s
Funerals and Memorial services are usually arranged by your Funeral Directors in the first instance, who will contact the Church Office on your behalf to book both the Church and the Minister to take the service.
The Minister will then be in touch to arrange a pastoral visit with you, and to help you decide the details and content of the service (for example your choice of hymns and readings), so that it reflects a worthy and apt thanksgiving for the life of your loved one.
St. Mary’s churchyard has been closed for burials for many years, but we are still able to inter ashes there if you wish – please mention this to your Funeral Directors.
We also have a Book of Remembrance in Church, in which your loved one’s name can be inscribed (and viewed in future years on the anniversary of their death, or other special date such as birth or wedding anniversary if you prefer) – please ask at the Church Office if you would like their name to be added.
On the Sunday nearest All Souls’ Day, in November each year, there is also an opportunity to remember loved ones at a special Service of Choral Evensong, at which you will be most welcome.
We pray for you in your sad loss, that you may know God’s peace, love and comfort surrounding you and your family.
