Stane Street Sinfonietta returns to St Mary’s on Saturday 22nd May

Neil Brand and Stane Street Sinfonietta celebrate Laurel and Hardy on Saturday 22nd May with three peformances at 4pm, 6pm and 8pm.

We are excited to welcome back the Stane Street Sinfonietta with a very special event. Joining them will be Neil Brand (composer, dramatist, expert in playing and composing for silent movies and recently seen as the presenter of BBC’s Sound of Cinema and Sound of Television series) for an exploration into the early lives and career of the world’s greatest comedy duo – Laurel and Hardy.

The show culminates in a screening of the 1928 classic short You’re Darn Tootin’ with Stane Street Sinfonietta under conductor Steve Dummer playing Neil’s original score.

Tickets – £15 and £5 for under 18s – only available in advance.

Choose from three different performance times 4.00pm, 6.00pm and 8.00pm

Tickets available from the Stane Street Sinfonietta website: http://www.stanestreetsinfonietta.com/

English Music Festival Returns to St Mary’s 28-31 May

We are delighted that current legislation means that the 2021 May English Music Festival will be able to take place at St Mary’s over the Spring Bank Holiday (28-31 May 2021).

Due to the ongoing restrictions relating to COVID-19, the Festival will  have more of an emphasis on chamber-music and song recitals. The full programme is available at this page.

Should the date for re-starting live events be pushed back by the Government beyond the start-date of the Festival for any reason, the events will be filmed with the same programmes and artists, and the entire Festival will be available online instead. Under these circumstances, any tickets purchased for a live event will be valid for the equivalent event online.

The full 2021 programme is available here . Booking is now open to all — the online Box Office may be found on this page.

English Music Festival concerts

Tickets now available for online viewing of December English Music Festival concerts

The English Music Fesstival (EMF) are delighted to announce that tickets are now available for the online screenings of their two concerts, held at St Mary’s Church in Horsham last month. The films are priced £12 each, or £20 for both films; you can view the full programmes here: www.englishmusicfestival.org.uk/2020-christmas-concerts/programme.php, and tickets are available to purchase here: www.englishmusicfestival.org.uk/2020-christmas-concerts/film-tickets/01-selection.php.

The first film features a harp / harp and piano recital in the first half, with a number of delightful works by composers such as Britten and Rutter, while the second half features Parry’s Freundschaftslieder followed by A Christmas Garland, comprising captivating and beautiful commissions from Cecilia McDowall, David Matthews, Paul Carr, Richard Blackford, Roderick Williams, Paul Lewis, John Pickard, Thomas Hewitt Jones, Richard Pantcheff and Graham Keitch. The second concert, given by vocal quartet Oxford Liedertafel, with sometimes touching, sometimes hilarious (and always entertaining) readings by celebrated countertenor James Bowman, includes carols and part-songs by Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Sullivan, Tallis, Byrd, Henry VIII, Dowland, Campion and Cornysh.

The full Programme Book is also available to purchase as a companion to the films, either as a PDF or a hard copy, sent to you by post. Please visit www.englishmusicfestival.org.uk for further information.
